Creating an indicator

Creating an indicator

A â€" indicator is an event, an observable, measurable fact determined by a calculation that identifies qualitatively or quantitatively an improvement or deterioration in the behaviour of the process under review.

Indicators can be combined with an operational objective to determine whether or not it is met. For an Indicator to be functional, a statistic must be associated with it.
See articleCreating a statistic

To create an Indicator, click on the functionality'Objectives & Indicators'then on the tab'Indicators'.

The register of indicators appears, then click on the buttonValidate

Complete the different fields:

Fields marked with a* * * * * *must be informed.
    • Title = designation of indicator
    • Domain = Quality, Health, Security and/or Environment.
    • Process = Choice of Process related to the indicator being created
    • Statistics = Choice of statistics to be assigned to the indicator being created.
    • Pilot = Person responsible for monitoring the indicator being created.
    • Frequency Update = Automatic complete field according to the parameterization of the selected statistic.
    • Start and End Date = Period during which the indicator is analyzed.

There are 2 types of indicators:

Type Monitoring= this type of indicator does not require a target to be achieved but, as the name suggests, only monitoring by the affected pilot. Section 'Objective/Targetwill therefore be masked if this type is selected. The source data will be systematically a statistic allowing quantitative analysis of the indicator.

Type Performance (selected by default)= this type of indicator requires a target to be achieved. Section 'Objective/Target' will therefore be visible if this type is selected. The source data may be a (quantitative) or a free (qualitative) field.

If Source data = Statistics:

  • Associate a statistic in the field "Statistics"
  • Determine the display of the result:
    • Last value:displays only the last value entered in the associated statistic
    • Cumulative Value:sum the values recorded in the associated statistic from the start date of follow-up of the indicator to the end date of follow-up.
    • Average:average the values recorded in the associated statistic from the start date of follow-up of the indicator to the end date of follow-up.
    • Actual rate:If the associated statistic is "customized" type and corresponds to a rate calculation, ALOR, this function will be available and will provide the actual rate at each period. (Sum of numerators / Sum of denominators * 100)
    • Fill the fields in the "Objective/Target" section:
      • Operator = Indicates whether the value of the objective should be less, equal or greater than the target value.
      • Unit = Value Unit (%, €, days…)
      • Value = Target value
      • Acceptance threshold (optional) = value for which the objective is not met but where the objective is not met but where the objective is not accepted.
      • Objective Tracking: Fixed = Fixed target value throughout the period / Seasonal portion = Valuative over the period / Cumulative = Accumulated target value at frequency defined over the period / Seasonal = manually entered value for each period analyzed.

If Source data = Free field:

  • The field "statisticsand the section "Objective/Target" disappear.
  • Complete The table of acceptance criteria: Additional acceptance criteria can be added by clicking on the " button+ +"
  • A performance indicator will appear after a first validation of the form indicating the level of achievement of the objective.

After completing this form, click on the " buttonValidate"

You then return to the indicator summary table page where your new record appears.

To know: It is possible to link an action to an indicator clicking on an already recorded indicator. A field "action plan" will be visible at the bottom of the page.

Click on the " button+ +" to record an action.
